With a spring in his step,Hemank Chaudhary readied himself for the next delivery. The wily bowler had just claimed his third wicket and the confidence with which he was bowling showed in his performance. With another wicket in his kitty-his fourth of the day- he helped Chandigarh keep a tight leash on Mohali batsmen and bundle them out for 218 in their first innings in the Under-19 cricket tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy played at PCA Stadium on Friday. Hemank,as expected, was the standout performer for Chandigarh.

Earlier,Chandigarh won the toss and elected to field first. Keeping the weather conditions in mind,it was an apt choice. Soon,Mohali lost wickets in a heap and were staring down the barrel at 92 for 6 in 40.3 overs. At this stage,Anmoljit Dhillon and Jasinder Baidwan got into the rescue act and braving hostile bowling performance from Chandigarh bowlers, added 50 runs for the seventh wicket.

Mohali did not get off to a good start as their openers- Karan Aggarwal and Harsrup Singh- failed to provide a solid start to the team. Harsrup was caught by Talwinder off Shivam Bhambri when he went for an ambitious shot. The team had not opened their account yet at this stage. Karan was the next to go as he was snapped by Arjit off Jagjit Singh’s bowling. He scored 14 off 17 balls with the help of two boundaries.

Bowling in tandem,Chandigarh bowlers Hemank and Arpit Pannu spun a web around Mohali batsmen and hardly provided them with the space to score runs.

Only Jasinder (53) and Anmoljit (48) managed to come up with noteworthy knocks. Jasinder’s knock came off 93 balls with the help of four boundaries and two mighty sixes.

Brief scores:

Mohali: 1st innings: 218 all out in 94.3 overs (Jasinder Baidwan 53,Anmoljit Singh 48,Sahil Chander 31,Pukhraj Singh 21,Hemank Choudhary 4 for 62,Shivam Bhambri 2 for 20,Arpit Pannu 2 for 41)

Prabhjot ton propels Patiala

PRABHJOT Singh sent the Ludhiana bowlers on a leather hunt as the opener smashed a stroke-filled century (166) to help Patiala pile on a huge total in their match held at PAU Ludhiana on Friday. It was his knock that helped Patiala reach a good total.

Earlier,Patiala openers Prabhjot and Mandeep Singh put on 69 runs for the first wicket in 17.1 overs before Mandeep was caught by Nimit Malhan off Sandeep Singh’s bowling for 22 runs. Manpreet then joined Prabhjot and they added 73 runs for the second wicket. However,Manpreet also lost his concentration and was dismissed by Navendu for 31 runs.

Sagar joined Prabhjot at this stage and together they played some great shots to raise their century partnership (106 runs) and bolstered the team’s total. Prabhjot was finally out after a splendid batting performance in which he scored 166 runs off 220 balls with the help of 20 boundaries and four mighty sixes.

Sagar was the next to go as he was dismissed for 32 runs. The team’s score was 281 for 4 in 76.2 overs. Thereafter,Anmolpreet and Sanbir added unbeaten 62 runs for the fifth wicket to take the score to 343 for 4 in 95 overs before the stumps were drawn.

Brief scores:

Patiala: 343 for 4 in 95 overs (Prabhjot 166,Anmolpreet 62 no,Sagar 32,Manpreet 31,Mandeep 22,Sanbir 21 no,Sandeep 1 for 5,Navendu 1 for 35,Kabir 1 for 57).
