THE CHANDIGARH health department has geared up to prevent the spread of diseases this summer. According to health officials, all the diseases, including malaria and dengue, have been made notifiable for the current year, which will help the department in early detection of the diseases.
Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, anti-malaria officer of the UT health department, says that for the summer season, the department is already prepared to tackle the cases of malaria.
“We have stepped up surveillance and our teams are conducting checks in the city. We have conducted house-to-house checking so that we could stop these diseases early,” says Aggarwal.

He says that the focus is being laid on information, education and communication. “Our teams are going and creating awareness among the public about the disease,” he says, adding that the department has issued challans and notices to violators and government institutes as well.
The health department has recently started 24×7 helpline for the city residents, through which public can report the stagnant water points in the city.
A health official says they have prepared a plan so that there would be less cases of diseases, which are expected in the summer. “Stress is being laid on creating awareness so that there are less mosquitogenic conditions in the city.”
Health director Dr Vantita Gupta says, “Mosquito control is happening. We are trying to stop malaria and dengue. We will take help of MC to stop the breeding points.”
