The Punjab government has upgraded the security cover of Satguru Uday Singh, the head of Bhaini Sahib dera in Ludhiana, to Z-plus following the murder of Namdhari matriarch Chand Kaur near the dera on April 4.

Uday Singh will now have 40 trained personnel and commandos as his escort. Earlier, he had a sub-inspector, three policemen and two private gunmen accompanying him.

In a similar move, the Haryana government has also for the first time provided security to Thakur Dalip Singh who heads the Namdhari sect dera in Jeewan Nagar of Sirsa in Haryana. His security will include two gunmen.

Uday Singh and Dalip Singh, the two nephews of Chand Kaur, have been at loggerheads and put the blame on each other for the murder of their aunt.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, ADGP, Security, BK Bawa said, “The security cover of Satguru Uday Singh, chief of Namdhari sect, has been upgraded to Z-plus.” Immediately after Chand Kaur’s murder, an escort with four commandos and four additional policemen was attached to Uday Singh.

Ludhiana police commissioner J S Aulakh said, “We had augmented Uday Singh’s security following the Namdhari matriarch’s murder but it was not under Z or Z-plus category. We are yet to receive orders from Chandigarh headquarters to deploy Z-plus security for him.”
