Car rams stranded truck,two of family dead,six injured

A five-year-old boy and his aunt died and six other members of an ex-serviceman’s family sustained serious injuries when the Cielo car they were travelling in rammed a stationary truck parked on the Kharar-Banur Road near Raipur Kalan village in Mohali on Monday morning.

The injured were: retired subedar Satpal Singh Rathore (55),his wife Sarwati Devi (50),son Bhupinder Singh (33),Bhupinder’s wife Ashu (30),Satpal’s daughters Mintu (32) and Preeti (22). Their condition is stated to be critical.

Bhupinder’s six-year-old daughter Khushi miraculously escaped unhurt in the accident in which the victims were trapped inside the mangled car,Investigation Officer (IO) ASI Nikka Ram told Newsline.

Except Sarwati and Bhupinder,who were admitted in the Kharar Civil Hospital,the rest of the injured were rushed to PGI. The family lives in Chanalon Focal Point near Kurali.

The IO said the accident took place around 8 am when Rathore’s family was returning home from a religious function in Ambala.

At Raipur Kalan village,Satpal,who was driving,failed to notice the truck due to poor visibility and hit the truck. Satpal steered the car towards right but could not avoid the collision,the police said.

The police have booked the truck driver for causing obstruction on the road and causing death and injury due to negligence. The driver,however,was not arrested.
