Cancer survivors share life mantras,spread hope

Cancer is not the end of life and one can have a meaningful existence even after battling the disease.

Cancer is not the end of life and one can have a meaningful existence even after battling the disease. This was the underlining message that was spread on the occasion of Cancer Survivors and International Childhood Cancer Day at the Sahayta Cancer Kendra where a function was held on Saturday.

The event began with a prayer to the Almighty for strength and vigour to follow the path of righteousness.

Solo dances by cancer-afflicted children lightened the atmosphere and survivors narrated their experiences and shared their life mantras.

Sanjay Kumar,Finance Secretary,UT Chandigarh,who was the chief guest on the occasion,lauded the NGO volunteers and appreciated their efforts for spreading cancer awareness by holding camps in colonies and the peripheral areas of Chandigarh.

Kumar also promised to provide a mobile mammography van in Chandigarh for breast cancer screening.

The Jeevan Shakti award was presented to Varinder Puri,Late Karuna Puri and Megha Narang.

Bereaved families gave away the Jeevan Sahayta and Jeevan Sahara awards to 12 needy people in the memory of their dear ones who succumbed to cancer.

Dr R K Marwaha,professor in paediatric oncology at PGI,spoke on childhood cancer and also shared care tips with the audience about the things to be kept in mind in order to win the battle against the disease.
