(File photo)The brother of a deceased gangster allegedly involved in the assassination of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in public at Channan Ke village under Mehta police station limits in Amritsar district on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Jugraj Singh, 28. He was the younger brother of gangster Jagroop Singh alias Rupa. The latter died in a police encounter in Bhakna Kalan village near Amritsar on July 20, 2022.
According to CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, the attackers –three unidentified men on a motorcycle – opened fire at Jugraj Singh at close range.
“Jugraj died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds. We reached the crime scene promptly and have initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” said a senior police officer.
“The initial investigation points to a personal rivalry, but we are not ruling out other possibilities. CCTV footage and witness statements are being reviewed,” he added.
Jugraj Singh’s brother Jagroop Singh was one of the alleged shooters who attacked Moosewala on May 29, 2022.
