Chandigarh: An inquiry conducted by the Punjab government in the alleged evasion of stamp duty in Ludhiana has recommended initiation of departmental action against some employees. However,criminal liability,if any,committed by the officials is still being examined. The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday gave three weeks time to the state government to complete the exercise and submit a report. The HC was hearing a PIL filed by one Tarsem Lal,resident of Ludhiana,alleging that various individuals in connivance with government functionaries have evaded stamp duty.
2 weeks to act against sarpanches
Chandigarh: THE Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday gave two weeks time to take action against former sarpanches and gram panchayats that have allegedly caused loss by misutilization of funds. The directions came during the resumed hearing of a PIL filed by Ludhiana resident Kulwant Singh who had sought direction to Punjab to conduct the audit of accounts of all the panchayats falling under Phakhowala Block from January 1,2003 to March 31,2010.
Pakistani man dies in hospital
Attari: An unidentified Pakistani infiltrator on Friday succumbed to bullet injuries in the government Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here. BSF officials said that last night a Pakistani infiltrated into the Indian territory. He was repeatedly asked by the night patrolling party of BSF to surrender,but he ignored all the warnings and kept moving. When the BSF observed that the Pakistani started to move in another direction to hide behind bushes instead of surrendering,he was shot at and fell down. BSF personnel then shifted him to Guru Nanak Hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Cold conditions aggravate in Punjab
Chandigarh: Cold conditions aggravated in most parts of Punjab on Friday with the minimum temperature plummeting upto seven notches below normal in some areas. The minimum temperature hovered between two to seven degrees Celsius below normal in most parts of Punjab,the Met office said here. While Amritsar settled at a low of two degrees Celsius,five notches below normal,Patiala recorded six degrees Celsius.
