Charles,Camilla leave for Jodhpur
Patiala: Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles were accorded a warm send-off from Patiala on Tuesday. On behalf of the Punjab government,Minister for Public Relations Sewa Singh Sekhwan was present at the Patiala aviation complex,along with a host of senior officials. The couple left for Chandigarh in a special Indian Air Force helicopter,from where they took another special flight to Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Charles and Camilla spent the night in Patiala as a private guest of former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and his wife Preneet Kaur at the latters Moti Bagh Palace. Amarinder had hosted a dinner in their honour on Monday night,which was attended by about 100 dignitaries from different walks of life.
SBoP extends teaser loans up to December
Patiala: The State Bank of Patiala has extended its concessional home and car loan schemes till December 31,2010. Under the House Loan Scheme,SBoP is offering a fixed rate of 8 per cent for the first year,9 per cent for second and third years and the prevailing rate linked with base rate thereafter. The maximum tenure is 25 years. Under the Ezee Car Loan Scheme for new cars,the bank is offering a fixed rate of 8 per cent for the first year,10 per cent for second and third years and the prevailing rate linked with base rate thereafter. The maximum tenure is seven years. No penalty would be charged if the borrower wishes to pre-pay the loan.
Badal ignoring his own FMs views on handling of debt crisis: Khangura
Chandigarh: A day after Finance Minister Manpreet Badal called for cross-party deliberations over handling of the debt crisis in the state,Qila Raipur MLA Jassi Khangura said there was a lack of consensus in the ruling Badal family itself. Cross-party consensus is desirable,but before that the finance minister will have to ensure consensus in his own family, he said,pointing out that Manpreets observations were ignored by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. Khangura added: Punjab needs creative solutions. We cannot continue with the current financial profligacy. This is jeopardising the lives of countless farmers and ordinary people. He said the Punjab Congress supported the principle of subsidies to farmers,but it was prepared to consider new approaches. He said the productivity bonus currently being paid to farmers was a progressive move that channelised subsidy direct to the farmers and not through the power corporation.
PSPCL signs fresh MoU with Talwandi Sabo plant after govt nod to expansion
Patiala: With the Punjab government giving its nod to another unit of 660 mega watts at the Talwandi Sabo thermal power plant,the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) signed a fresh MoU with the Talwandi Sabo Power Limited,being set up by the Vedanta group,on Tuesday. After Rajpira thermal power plant (Larsen and Toubro),this is the second thermal plant in the state being set up in the private sector to get a nod to add another unit. PSPCL Chairman and Managing Director K D Chaudhri said the total capacity of the plant would now be 2,640 MW,highest in the state. He hoped the company would be able to complete the main project and its expansion in time.
