AMRITSAR: An unknown person kidnapped a six-year-old girl child from outside her house and in the presence of her mother at Uttamgarh Chowk in the walled city on Thursday. Sukhdip Kaur,the mother said she she received a phone call from a woman who said that her parents were standing in the street and wanted to meet her. As she came out of her house with the child,a clean-shaven boy snatched the minor and fled. The police have registered a case under sections 364 and 120-B of IPC.

Civil surgeon inspects central jail

AMRITSAR: A team of doctors led by Civil Surgeon Avtar Singh raided the Central jail on Thursday and found that poor sanitary conditions prevail inside the premises. The team also collected food samples after it was alleged that drugs found their way to the inmates. Singh would soon submit a report on the team’s findings with jail,police,civil and health authorities.

Locals protest against waste plant

Jalandhar: Hundreds of locals gathered at Jamsher village to protest against the setting up of Jamsher Solid Waste Management Plant. They demanded that green clearance be procured from the environment ministry before the plant is set up by the Jindal group. Former Jalandhar Cantt MLA Jagbir Brar, who joined the protesters, said that garbage and filth from 29 municipal bodies would be brought to the plant and it may create a health hazard for the residents of the area.

Two brothers get life for murder

BHATINDA: The court of District and Sessions Judge,Bathinda,S K Aggarwal on Thursday awarded life sentence to two brothers in a murder case dating back to August 2008. Dhapali village residents Jagjit Singh and Resham Singh had allegedly attacked Lakhvir Singh with sharp edged weapons when he was riding on a motorcycle with his father Sukhdev Singh.

CSD counter in Badhra town soon

Chandigarh: An extension counter of CSD will be opened at Badhra town in district Bhiwani by the end of this month. A official spokesman said that the extension counter was being opened for the convenience of ex-servicemen,widows of ex-servicemen and serving personnel on leave in Badhra area.
