Phoolka asks panel to check money power in SGPC polls
AMRITSAR: Supreme Court Lawyer and human rights activist HS Phoolka,contesting several high-profile cases related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots,shot off a letter to Chief Commissioner,Gurdwara Elections,Chandigarh,on Monday,demanding guidelines for political parties to check the use of money power and expenses in the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections. In addition to fixing a limit on expenses,there should be a restriction on putting up posters and hoardings and restrictions on processions and use of campaign vehicles.
Cong condemns attack on Ahluwalia
Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday condemned the attack on Dr Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia,Vice-Chancellor of the newly set up Shri Guru Granth Sahib World University,Fatehgarh Sahib. Expressing shock over the incident and demanding immediate arrest of the culprits,Amarinder said,there is total collapse of the law and order machinery in the state. The crime rate during the Akali-BJP regime increased by 65 per cent in first three years and by now it must be 100 percent.
Brar organises meetings
NAWANSHAR: While Peoples Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Badal is on a foreign tour,his former OSD,Charanjit Singh Brar after announcing his resignation from the party has started organising meetings with his supporters back here. Brar told mediapersons that he would decide future course of action after holding meetings with his supporters in the entire state. He denied that he had ditched Manpreet. I decided to leave the party when Manpreet started betraying people by not fulfilling the promises he had made, said Brar.
Farm tool testing centre in Hisar
CHANDIGARH: A farm equipment testing centre has been set up at Agriculture Engineering and Technical College under the Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University,Hisar. A spokesman of the university said that the farm implements will be tested in this centre as per the prescribed norms of Indian Standard Institute.
New Haryana body for financial cases
CHANDIGARH: The Haryana finance department has constituted a department level policy implementation committee to regularly monitor and review litigations arising in the finance department. In case the committee feels that certain policies or rules need to be streamlined,it shall make its recommendations to the state level committee.
