With the vocational courses picking up in city schools,CBSE is all set to to introduce mass communication as one of elective subjects in the upcoming academic session.

Like all other courses, the subject will be introduced in all the 61 senior secondary schools in the city for students of Class XI and XII.

“Among all the cities in the northern region, the response to the vocational courses has been the best from Chandigarh schools. On that note,we are going to introduce mass media in city schools from April,” said CBSE Regional Director,R J Khanderao.

The course was introduced in CBSE-affiliated schools in Delhi and Mumbai in 2011. In view of the growing popularity of mass media across the country, the board has decided to launch the course in other cities including Chandigarh. The other vocational courses, already introduced in Chandigarh schools include fashion designing, textile designing,IT,beauty culture and automobile engineering.

As per the Board’s framework, the students will primarily be trained in creative writing and basic communication skills. In addition, the students will also be encouraged to bring out newsletters regularly.

However, directions for recruitment of faculty members for mass media teaching are yet to be issued by the Board.
