BJP Lok Sabha candidate and Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans started his campaign in Punjab’s Faridkot on Thursday.

Talking about the recent farmer agitation and the agitators’ move to ‘ban’ the entry of BJP candidates in villages, the BJP Faridkot nominee said, “Farmers know that I am a balanced person. While the farmers were at the Singhu and Tikri borders, I used to go there and organise langar (serve free food) despite being a BJP MP from North West Delhi. I even used to sit with them to have tea, and snacks, and understand their perspective.” “I will go to their doorstep to seek their blessings, and I am sure the farmers will not decline to bless me,” he added.

Talking about the poll battle, he said, “I always pray for everyone. I have been born to spread love and not for any contest or competition. Faridkot di gulaami vi badshahi naalon changi hai (Serving the people of Faridkot is as good as becoming an emperor).” Hans sang ‘Baba Farid ke Dohe’ and paid obeisance at Tilla Baba Farid in the Faridkot district. He later conducted a road show accompanied by BJP state general secretary Anil Sarin in Faridkot.

Meanwhile, he faced protests from AAP workers and farmer unions at several locations within Faridkot city. While the road show was passing through the town area, the convoy first faced sloganeering from AAP and later from farmer unions at three more locations. Protestors were standing on both sides of the road and shouting anti-BJP slogans. However the road show didn’t stop anywhere.
