Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. (File) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday announced ‘CM Di Yogshalas’ in every mohalla of the state as an effort by the state government to ensure the health and wellness of the people.
In a video, Mann said that the yogshalas would be started in four districts – Amritsar, Ludhiana, Phagwara and Patiala – initially. Subsequently, it will be opened in all parts of the state. He added that the state government will provide instructors free of cost to those who wish to do yoga and meditation in any park in the state.
Mann said the government will take the initiative to every mohalla in Punjab in the coming days. Stating that he himself does yoga every morning, the chief minister said, “We want to make it a public movement. Yoga is part of our tradition. I also do yoga in the morning. It is beneficial. But it has vanished from our busy schedules. We are reintroducing yoga and meditation so that we can sort out several health issues among the public.”
Earlier, the AAP government in Delhi had launched a similar yoga-based programme but it came to an abrupt halt in the wake of issues with Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.
