BCom admissions made easier,now apply to 26 colleges online

The course is offered in 26 affiliated colleges at Chandigarh,Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur,and over 4,000 seats are available.

Through the website,a student can apply to any of the colleges. The online system will save students from shuttling between different colleges for admission.

A centralised admission procedure will allow students to take admission in a college of their choice provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria. Putting a cap on the exorbitant prospectus fee charged by various colleges,the university has fixed a nominal fee of Rs 120.

For students under various reserved categories,it has been fixed at Rs 60 while it is free for those applying under the blind and physically disabled category. Twelve colleges in Chandigarh have 2,000 seats followed by 2,100 in Ludhiana colleges and 280 seats in Hoshiarpur colleges.

Officials claim that around 12,000 students apply for the nearly 4,500 seats. Those applying to Chandigarh colleges are required to send the online form with photocopies of their mark sheets of Class XII to the varsity.

Those applying to Ludhiana and Hoshiarpur colleges have to apply to the respective centres as mentioned on the website. The last date for filling up forms is June 21.

The website also lists the rules followed to select students under various categories,including general as well as reserved.

The Panjab University will soon hold a meeting with its affiliated colleges and direct officials to set up help desks to guide students while filling the online forms.

The website has all details of the course,seats available in a particular college,faculty and other facilities in the college. All private colleges affiliated to PU will charge uniform fee while the Administration will fix the same for government colleges.

Students can also post their feedback about the entire admission process. Once the merit list is displayed for counselling,students will be given two days for filing any objections.

* Professor Sobti announced that research scholars who volunteer at the help desks set up at colleges to facilitate the admission process will be paid Rs 200 per day.
* The university also plans to upload maksheets of students on its website. Also,the detailed marksheet will carry a photograph of the candidate from the new academic session
