His was the first reported death following a series of racial attacks that had been unleashed on students of Indian Origin residing in Australia.

According to police reports,Nitin was stabbed while walking to work after school. Profusely bleeding,he managed to reach the fast food corner Hungry’s Jack where he worked and was taken to a nearby hospital by the owner of the restaurant. He,however, succumbed to his injuries.

The murder shocked the Indian community settled abroad and shook the faith of parents who had sent their children to Australia. Seeing immense pressure build up,the Australian police launched a massive search to hunt down the murderer of Nitin.

Six months later,a 15-year-old boy was arrested for the crime. Nitin had been living in Australia for three years and was a permanent resident of this country.

He had returned there from a holiday with his family in December just a fortnight before the murder. Harish added, “We do not know anything about this boy. Why did he kill Nitin? Was it a racial attack or was it a case of mugging as the Australian police are claiming it to be?

“Where does this boy live? We do not know anything. The Australian police have not told us anything but we want to know. The High Commission has assured us that all the details of the case will soon reach us. Justice can at least help to heal our wounds,” he pointed out.
