ASI arrested in graft case
Mohali: The Vigilance Bureau (VB),Punjab,on Friday,nabbed an ASI of the Ludhiana Police while taking a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Ludhiana Court Complex early on Friday. ASI Balbir Singh,who was posted in the EOW,had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from Kuldeep Singh,an accused in a fraud case,to support his bail application. Kuldeep informed the VB through his relative Gurbaksh Singh.
The Bureau then laid a trap and nabbed Balbir red-handed. A case of corruption has been registered with Flying Squad 1 Police Station under Sections 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Balbir was produced in a local court and remanded in judicial custody.
Four injured in two separate accidents
Chandigarh: Four persons were injured in two separate accidents of which in one,the accused has been arrested,while in the other the Chandigarh police is yet to make an arrest.
In the first case,a resident of Zirakpur alleged that a truck hit her scooter at Kali Bari light point as she was heading towards her tuition centre in Mohali. The victim,who noted the registration number of the truck,was taken to GMCH- 32.
The Chandigarh police on November 21 arrested the truck driver,identified as Bharat. A resident of Pinjore,Bharat (24) was later out on bail.
In the second case,three youths riding on a motorcycle met with an accident in Sector 49 after a car hit their vehicle. The car driver was identified as Pardeep Singh,while the victims were identified as Vishal (rider) and Abhishek and Ritik (pillion riders). The three youths were taken to GMCH -32 for treatment. The car driver is yet to be arrested.
A case each of rash driving and of causing hurt by act endangering personal safety of others under the IPC has been registered against the accused.
Bittu Aulakh remanded in police custody
Mohali: A Mohali court,on Friday,sent Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Maninder Singh,alias Bittu Aulakh,who was arrested last week in connection with the Jagdish Bhola drug racket,to three-day police custody. Judicial Magistrate Imanbir Singh Dhaliwal also remanded Paramjit Singh Pamma to a three-day custody.
Investigating Officer of the Patiala police said a further remand for the two was needed to recover more drugs from their Mumbai flats. Bhola will be produced in the Mohali court on Saturday. A recovery of illegal drugs worth Rs 1 lakh was also produced before the magistrate. Aulakh,who broke down during the proceedings,was allowed to meet his wife in the court. Aulakh and Pamma had earlier been remanded to an eight-day police custody. Both were caught as part of the multi-million drug racket allegedly run by kingpin Bhola that was busted by the Patiala police recently.
Arrested for theft,woman alleges rape
Panchkula: A Sector 15 resident has been booked for rape after his maid,who had been arrested for theft from his house,alleged she had been assaulted by him several times. While a case has been registered with the Sector 14 police against the employer,the victim (21) has also been remanded in judicial custody. The woman and her husband,Anil Kumar,were arrested on Tuesday in Lucknow. When produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate,she claimed she had become pregnant with the accuseds child. She alleged that when the accuseds wife,a nurse,was out on night duty,her employer would rape her. On November 10,the couple had allegedly stolen gold jewellery and Rs 50,000 from the Sector 15 house after which the accuseds wife lodged a case of theft.
Police is yet to arrest the accused. We are still investigating. We do not have concrete evidence and will wait for the medical report of the maid, said Dalip Kumar,SHO.
GMADA pays Rs 50 crore as compensation
Mohali: To save its building from getting attached in a land acquisition case,the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA),on Friday,paid approximately Rs 50 crore in a Mohali court as part of payment of the enhanced compensation to over 100 farmers whose 275 acres of land was acquired for Sector 81.
The total amount paid by GMADA so far is now around Rs. 90 crore. They are yet to pay over Rs 200 crore to the aggrieved farmers. By paying such small amounts,GMADA is playing a cruel joke on the farmers, said Sher Singh,counsel for most farmers.The case will come up for resumed hearing on Saturday during the National Lok Adalat.
