Police have registered a case of Rs 28 lakh Employee Provident Fund and Employees State Insurance scam against a Zirakpur-based firm.

Case registered in Rs 28-lakh EPF scam

PANCHKULA: Police have registered a case of Rs 28 lakh Employee Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees State Insurance (ESI) scam against a Zirakpur-based firm. The case was registered on the complaint of Mission Director of Haryana Horticulture Department,Sector 21. About 157 employees were provided by a Zirakpuir based private firm,Rajinder Singh Saini and Sons,on contract from July 1,2008 to May 2,2010,for various offices of horticulture department. The government paid Rs 27,78,124 for provident fund and ESI employees,which was never disbursed to them. It was also revealed that the company never even opened bank accounts for its employees. Mission Director of the department had written to SP Panchkula,who after preliminary inquiry,got the case registered. Inspector Om Prakash,SHO of Sector 5 police station said,“We are investigating the case registered under Section 420 of IPC. So far no arrests have been made.”

Rape case against husband

S A S NAGAR: Mohali police have registered a case of rape on the complaint of a woman residing in Sector 71,Mohali,against her husband who had kept her in the dark about his previous marriage. The police have registered a case under Sections 376,420,494 and 395 of IPC. The complainant has alleged that she was married to Sarabjit Singh,a resident of Kurali,in 2009. It was later that she came to know about her husband’s previous marriage. Singh had apparently not divorced his former wife when he got married to the complainant and formed physical relations with the complainant. The police have booked Sarabjit on charges of rape,cheating and concealment of previous marriage.

Man dies after hit by bus

S A S NAGAR: A pedestrian died after he was hit by a school bus while crossing the road in Phase-11,Mohali. The deceased has been identified as Anil Dubey,a 35-year-old native of Bihar,residing in Kambali,Mohali. Dubey was crossing the road when a bus belonging to Mellinium School hit him. He was rushed to Government Civil Hospital,Phase-6,Mohali,where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Meanwhile,Jagtar the driver of the school bus fled from the scene,leaving the bus behind. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Body of unidentified man found

S A S NAGAR: Mohali police have recovered a badly decomposed unidentified body from Lakhnour village on Thursday. The body was recovered after villagers informed the Sohana police station. Initial investigations revealed that the body seems to be a 40-45 year old man,wearing a red and white checkered shirt and blue pants. The body is currently at Civil Hospital,Phase 6,Mohali.

Youth beaten in Landran

S A S NAGAR: A resident of Landran,Mohali,was injured when he was thrashed by a group of students of Raipur village,Sohana. Mohali police have registered a case of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon against the accused. The victim is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries at Civil Hospital,Mohali. Puneet Singh,a resident of Landran,complained that he was allegedly beaten up by Navinder Singh,Binda,Chotu and Harman,all residents Raipur village on Tuesday at around 7.40 pm when he was in his shop. The accused along with 6-7 unidentified people armed with weapons entered his shop and started beating him. Police have registered a case under Sections 323,324,341,148 and 149 of the IPC against the accused.

Attempt to ‘kidnap’ college girl

CHANDIGARH: Two unknown persons allegedly tried to kidnap a college girl in Sector 15 on Thursday morning. Police said the father of the victim,who is a student of Post Graduate Government college for Girls Sector 11,lodged a complaint with Sector 11 police station alleging that two car-borne youth allegedly tried to kidnap his daughter in Sector 15 when she was on her way to college at around 10 am. “They tried to put her in the car but the girl escaped and ran away. When she raised an alarm,the accused sped away,” the father told the police in his complaint. A case under section 365,511 Indian Penal Code has been registered in Police Station Sector 11 and the case is being investigated.

Anti-encroachment drive in furniture market

CHANDIGARH: A special anti-encroachment drive was carried out on Thursday by the enforcement wing of the Municipal Corporation in furniture market,Sector 34. During the drive material like sofa,beds,dining table,bundle of foam,mattresses and chairs lying on municipal land were removed. As many as 40 challans were issued to encroachers. Four trucks were loaded with the seized material.
