Chandigarh: The UT Deputy Commissioner’s charge,which was given to officiating ADC Mahavir Kaushik,has been handed over to the Joint Secretary (Home) Abhishek Dev. Dev was also on leave for about a week and only returned to work on Monday and was handed over the charge. UT Deputy Commissioner Brijendra Singh,who last attended office on December 30 and has been on leave since then.

Police remand of Gill extended by three days

PANCHKULA: A local court on Monday extended the police remand of Ravinder Singh Gill- accused of kidnapping three children- by three days till January 12. Gill,who was arrested on December 29 by Panchkula police,is accused of being behind the abductions of three children Jiya,Arnav and Mehak,all kids of industrialists,in 2009 and 2010 from Mohali and Panchkula.

CBI files chargesheet against 2 in graft case

CHANDIGARH: The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet against former revenue official from Punjab and sarpanch of Panjol village in a graft case,in the special CBI court. As per CBI officials,revenue official Narinder Singh and sarpanch Darbara Singh were arrested in April,for taking a bribe of Rs 9 lakh. The complainant,a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib,had bought an agricultural land in Panjol village last year. Narinder Singh had allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 9 lakh for registry of the land. The case is scheduled for next hearing on January 21.

‘School responsible for violation by bus’

PANCHKULA: In wake of the recent accident in Ambala that left 14 children dead,the Panchkula administration has said that if the school bus operators are found violating the rules,the school managements will be made liable for any lapse. Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Ashima Brar said that school managements will be equally made liable to any lapse by the bus operators.

Four booked for attempt to murder

CHANDIGARH: A person was admitted to PGI after being severely beaten by four people on Sunday evening.In her complaint to the police,Shanti Devi,alleged that Sajjan,Deepu,Bhola and Prem Chand,ran away after beating her nephew (Dharambir) with an iron rod. Police have booked the accused under charges of attempt to murder at the sector 11 police station.
