: The Cantonment Board in Ambala has introduced entry tax on commercial vehicles entering Army area. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the Board President and Sub Area Commander Brig A P Vam. Besides,the vehicle drivers from other states will have to pay the entry fee. The new system will be enforced within two months. The entry fee rates to be charged from the vehicles would be as follows; tourist bus or heavy commercial vehicle Rs 100,light commercial vehicle Rs 60,light commercial vehicle local (tractor and 3-wheelers) Rs 20 and vehicle from outside Rs 10. These charges would be for 24 hours.

Four passenger trains to Amritsar cancelled till October 9
Ambala
: Four passenger trains running between Ambala and Amritsar have been cancelled till October 9 due to completion of non-interlocking work being carried out at the Sahnewal station near Ludhiana. The cancellation has put passengers especially the daily passengers to inconvenience. The cancelled trains include 2 ULM and 3 ULM running between Ludhiana and Amritsar. Besides the cancelled trains,express trains such as Amritsar-Katihar,Amarpali and Himgiri were behind two to six hours. The railway spokesman said the trains running on down line will run late till October 9.

Residents’ body condemns CHB decision
Chandigarh
: Chandigarh Residents Social Welfare Federation has condemned the decision of the Chandigarh Housing Board to deal with the violations in the dwelling unit holders. The Chandigarh Housing Board has pasted notices in various sectors,including Sector 40,55,61 and Manimanjra asking residents to remove violations on their own or the board will take action. This would include imposing heavy penalties on residents. President of the Federation D S Chahal said there were serious violations throughout the city but the CHB was adopting the pick-and c-oose policy.

Two juveniles held on snatching charges
Chandigarh
: The police today arrested two minor boys,who had allegedly snatched a mobile phone in Sector 38-West here. The police laid a barrier near Dhanas village and arrested two juveniles wanted in a snatching case. Both the accused are residents of Jhahpur village in Mohali district. They had snatched a mobile phone on May 29 and sped away on a motorcycle.

Pedestrian crushed to death in Kharar
Kharar
: A pedestrian was mowed down by a recklessly driven scooter in Kurali near here last evening,the police said here today. Des Raj of Ward 9,Kurali,was returning back home on foot from an industrial unit along with his brother Harish Kumar and when they reached near Punjab National Bank,a speeding scooter hit him and sped away at around 7.30 pm. The badly injured industrial worker was rushed to Chandigarh PGIMER,where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment,Kumar told the police. The police have booked an unknown scooter driver for causing death by rash and negligent driving.
