Two arrested for stealing copper cable from airport
Chandigarh: Two personnel of the military engineer services (MES) were arrested on charges of stealing electric copper cable from Chandigarh Airport. The duo have been identified as Teja Singh (59) and Davinder Singh (49). Police said they worked as electrician with the MES and stole around 30 feet electric copper cable from the Airport on October 2. SHO,Sector 31,police station,Bakshish Singh said the accused will be produced in the court on Wednesday. Both the accused are alcoholic.
Man held with with four kilogram poppy husk
Chandigarh: The police arrested a man with around 4 kg of poppy husk from Sector 17 ISBT on Tuesday. The arrestee has been identified as Jaswinder Singh,a 30-year-old resident of Narangwal village in Ludhiana. A case under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against him in Sector 17 police station. During preliminary interrogation the accused disclosed that he had bought the poppy husk from Rajasthan border and was taking it to his village. Police said Singhs father is a junior engineer at PUNCOM.
Parwanoo: Two men lost their lives when their car fell into a deep gorge around 8 am near here. The passers-by informed the police. The dead have been identified as Pardeep Chaudhary,30,and Nitin Gayakward,52. The police handed over the bodies to kin after post-mortem.
Workshop on financial management held
Patiala: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were told to adopt fair practice of maintaining proper accounts and present their prospective reports in an orderly manner,so as to get adequate financial support from banks. This was mentioned by Ashok Nayar,Managing Director,State Bank of Patiala,in a day-long workshop organised by AIMA in co-ordination with Patiala Management Association and Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park of Thapar University in Patiala. This workshop on Management Skills to Source Financing & Management of Technology by SMEs was organized on October 1,2010,jointly by All-India Management Association,Patiala Management Association and STEP of Thapar University. The workshop was attended by local entrepreneurs,faculty members and students from a number of management and technical institutions.
NSS volunteers visit Kajheri village
Chandigarh: The NSS (National Service Scheme) wing of Post Graduate Government College for Girls Sector 42 organised a tarkshil mela at Kajheri village on Tuesday as a part of the seven-day NSS Camp in which around 150 NSS volunteers and large number of villagers participated. Jarnail Kranti and his team members from Tarkshil Society Punjab awakened the villagers and NSS volunteers to be vigilant and not get entrapped by tantriks and touts. They demonstrated some magical tricks performed by tantriks who befool people. volunteers also undertook a massive rally in the Kajheri village to create awareness among the village people with regard to social issues like health,environment,education,AIDS,polio,female foeticide,drug addiction,child marriage etc.
Seven-day NSS camp ends at GCG-11
Chandigarh: The seven-day NSS camp of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls,Sector 11,Chandigarh concluded on Tuesday. About 150 volunteers,under the guidance of programme officers Devenderjit Sewak,Gurjit Kaur and Dr S Prakasam participated in the special camp (day and night) from September 29 to October 5.
Poster competition held
Chandigarh: To strengthen the eco-message of wildlife conservation,Forest Department,Chandigarh Administration,Yuvsatta and Eco Club of Dev Samaj College of Education organised an inter-school poster making on the theme of forest in rains and biodiversity in forests and a debate contest on the theme of conservation versus development at Dev Samaj College of Education. Around 200 students from ten schools of the city participated in the event.
