Aroma fills city as green-fingered residents showcase talent

Lush green,lined with marigolds,pansies and lilies,the perfectly manicured lawns of the Gurukul School,Sector 20,Panchkula,are a winner all the way. It comes as no surprise when it bagged the ‘Best maintained garden in a school’ award for the eighth consecutive year in the ongoing 24th Spring Fest-10,the annual flower festival at Panchkula,organised by HUDA.

Satluj Public School,with half an acre of garden,claims to have 5,000 varieties of flowers.

School’s principal said his father and director of the school Pritam Singh Serai was fond of flowers and gardening was more of a passion than a hobby for him.

From Priyanka Khosla’s flowers in Sector 6,Dr V P Sood’s hanging garden at his residence in Sector 8 to Dr Arjun Arya’s artistic touch in Sector 6,sprawling colourful lawns in the Army area of Chandimandir,gardners Rajesh Kumar and Hari Ram’s painstaking efforts in full bloom in Sector 6,Puris bright residence in Sector 7,the roundabout maintained by Abrols in Sector 11-15,all were a visual treat for the visitors.

“It is the outcome of the untiring and creative efforts of the teacher in-charge,Vandana,members of the Eco Club ‘Birds of Paradise’ and the school gardeners,” said Gurukul’s principal Harsimran Kaur. Priyanka Khosla,too,gave the credit to her gardener,whose hardwork helped her win the award.

“He worked very hard,at the same time I guided him on how to give it a more designer look,” Priyanka said.
