The Police Control Room receives a call from a girl fearing that some boys may attempt to molest her. For the entire night that follows, her mobile phone remains switched off, further raising apprehensions in the minds of the cops. The next day, when the girl is contacted over phone, she refuses to pursue any complaint in the matter.

After being kept on tenterhooks for almost a day,the question that the Chandigarh Police are grappling with is: Was it for real or a prank?

“We are verifying the facts. If the girl has played any prank with the police, she is liable to get punished. Otherwise, the guilty youths will be booked,” said Senior Superintendent of Police S S Srivastava.

It was on Saturday night that the police received a call from the girl, while she was at Voodoo disco in Sector 26.

A day after when the police managed to locate her,the girl refused to pursue any complaint in the matter.

“Claiming that some boys were attempting to outrage her modesty, she sought police help. We immediately alerted the officials concerned who reached the spot immediately, only to find the disco locked.

After some time, the control room received another call seeking urgent help,” said a police officer, while adding that the police even got the disco opened, but found nobody inside.

“We began to fear the worst with suspicion brewing that she may either have been kidnapped or raped. Also, with her mobile phone switched off throughout the night, the anxieties only augmented,” said the officer.

On being contacted the following day,the girl said she had come from Delhi with her cousin and the duo had visited Voodoo disco on Saturday night. Some boys tried to molest her following which she called up the control room. Claiming that she was unaware of the police’s arrival, the girl said she immediately left the place after making the phone call.

DSP (East) J S Cheema said the police reached the spot soon after receiving the information. “There was no lapse on out part,” said Cheema.
