Months after transfer, Ajoy Sharma returns as Punjab health secretary

Ajoy Sharma was among the 18 IAS and 2 PCS officers transferred on Saturday. He had been shunted out in January after he had refused to sanction money for publicity of Aam Aadmi clinics.

In an administrative rejig, the Punjab government on Saturday transferred 18 IAS and two Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officers in the state and got Ajoy Sharma back as health secretary.

Sharma was removed from the health department in January this year when he had refused to sanction money for publicity of Aam Aadmi clinics in Punjab. He was not given a posting for three months and was later given charge of the local bodies department.

Along with the health department, Sharma has also been handed the charge of the local bodies department.

Sharma has replaced Vivek Pratap Singh in health, who in turn, will hold the charge of principal secretary of technical education and industrial training department.

Jaspreet Talwar will hold the charge of employment generation while Amit Dhaka will continue to hold the post of director at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA).

A K Sinha has been divested of the housing and urban development department and will continue to be the principal secretary of finance and housing and urban development.

V K Meena has been appointed principal secretary of social empowerment and minorities. He will continue to be the principal secretary, printing and stationery department. Kamal Kishore Yadav, secretary, education, has also been given charge of the higher education department.

D S Mangat and Arun Sekhri have swapped places, with Mangat being posted as Patiala division commissioner and Arun Sekhri being appointed as the commissioner of the Ferozpur division.

Ritu Aggarwal, secretary of the cooperative department, has been posted as secretary in the Punjab State Right to Information Commission. Manjeet Singh Brar has been appointed as commissioner in the Faridkot division.

Devinder Pal Singh Kharbanda has been given the additional charge of director, industries. He will also remain the secretary of the investment promotion department and CEO of Punjab Bureau of Investment Promotion.

Varinder Kumar Sharma has been appointed managing director of Punjab Health System Corporation. Apart from this, he will also hold the charge of special secretary of the health department. Ghanshyam Thori will be the new deputy commissioner of Amritsar while Puneet Goyal will be the new director of the food and supplies department.

Sheena Aggarwal has been appointed as the new director of the social security, women and child development department. Harpreet Singh Sudan has been appointed director of technical education and will have the additional charge of director, printing and stationery.

Amrit Singh will be the director of higher education and the director of employment generation and secretary, Lokpal. Neeru Katyal Gupta has been given the charge of director of tourism and cultural affairs. K K Garg has been appointed as MD of Milkfed. He will also have additional charge of his previous departments.

PCS officer Sukhjit Pal Singh has been appointed additional secretary in the health department while Jagjit Singh has been appointed as secretary to the State Election Commission.
