Taking note of the threat call received by a Kharar family from Australia on June 13,demanding that they ask their son to return from the country,Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand has asked Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to act against the unidentified caller.
In a missive to the SSP,of which Newsline has a copy,the DC forwarded the complaint of Kharar resident Bhushan Lal,employed as a clerk in the Municipal Council,to the SSP for initiating necessary action in the case. Lals 27-year-old son Amit Verma lives in Adelaide with his wife Nishi and two-year-old daughter.
On June 16,Lal had sent a representation to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh,Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,Director General of Police K K Attri and Mohali Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand to explain the threat call.
Lal said the call came from an Australian phone number and the caller spoke in a Punjabi dialect. Without revealing his identity,the caller disconnected the call when I tried to ask him his name and reason for calling, Lal had stated. Amit had also reported the matter to the Australia police,which had also not yet made any breakthrough.
