Abducted IT park employee’s funeral in Mohali sees emotional farewell, 3 more suspects nabbed from Nepal border

Mitali’s family demands death penalty for the accused; Derabassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa who attended the funeral said such kind of crimes are intolerable.

With roses in hand and grief-stricken hearts, family members and local people marched in protest on Saturday, demanding the arrest of all accused before performing the last rites of a 23-year-old woman, who was abducted from Badal Colony in Mohali on March 7.

Mitali, who worked at an IT park in Panchkula, was found dead in a drain in Banur three days later.

As Mitali’s body arrived from Derabassi Hospital, an overwhelming sense of sorrow spread among the crowd who came to attend the funeral at Zirakpur.

According to the family, four men abducted Mitali and the police failed to take appropriate action despite the her father lodging a complaint on March 7 itself, mentioning the name of the suspect who had been harassing the woman for quite some time.

Meanwhile, SSP Deepak Pareek on Saturday confirmed that three of the four suspects – Sultan Mohammad, Raj Kumar, and Amandeep – have been arrested from the Bihar-Nepal border. Earlier, the police had arrested one accused Mohit Kumar along with the vehicle used for the abduction.

Mitali’s family has demanded death penalty for the accused. “We seek justice for our daughter. The police must take strict action against all those responsible for her murder and ensure that such tragedies do not happen again,” said a relative.

Derabassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa who attended the funeral described the incident as deeply tragic and a significant challenge for the Punjab Police.

“Crimes like these are intolerable. No accused will be spared, even if police negligence is involved. The harshest punishment will be given to set a strong precedent,” the MLA said.
