The Chandigarh district court on Saturday framed charges against four Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Mann, for clashing with the police and obstructing government employees outside Punjab BJP’s Chandigarh office in February 2021.
The court framed charges under sections 188, 323, 332, and 353 of the IPC against Mann, Chandigarh AAP co-incharge Dr Sunny Ahluwalia, Rajwinder Kaur Gill, and Arshdeep Singh.
According to the police, an FIR was registered against the accused on February 5, 2021, under the same sections at Sector 39 police station.
The police said the accused, including Mann, were protesting with hundreds of workers outside the Punjab BJP office when they clashed with the police.
The prosecution stated that AAP’s Punjab women’s wing president Rajwinder Kaur and youth leader Anmol Gagan Mann tried to lay siege to the BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh, and allegedly attempted to break barricades.
The FIR also stated that the leaders violated social distancing norms imposed by the government due to the Covid-19 outbreak at the time.
