Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan is back, and true to its calling, the Indian National Theatre will present a galaxy of practitioners of the Indian classical music. This year, the Sammelan is dedicated to the memory of Late Pt Mallikarjun Mansur, and naturally so,his son Rajshekhar Mansur will be the lead artiste. Rajshekhar, whose compact style of singing is marked by presentation of rare ragas, will be singing twice: once on Saturday evening (November 5) and then on Sunday morning (November 6).

The morning concert will begin with the vocal recital of his disciple,Chandrika Kamath.

As is the practice,a number of bright youngsters will also regale the audiences. Kumari Gurinder,a prominent disciple of Kishori Amonkar, will feature on Saturday evening. Between her stage performances and her job as professor of music at a prominent college in Delhi, she has also picked up a doctorate on the works of Alladia Khan, who gave birth to the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. Subhadra Desai,a well known vocalist and a product of Gandharva Mahavidyala and Dhruv Bedi, who has been trained in the intricate nuances of the sitar, will perform on November 4.

The event will be held at the auditorium of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,Sector 27,Chandigarh. Entry is free.
