The Shiromani Akali Dal on Sunday released its third list of ten more candidates for the Assembly polls. Five more new faces were allotted tickets on Sunday thus ensuring that out of the 72 candidates declared so far,22 are new faces. With the SAD set to contest 94 seats in the state, party president Sukhbir Badal said the candidates for the remaining 22 seats will be announced shortly. Among those given a ticket is Daljeet Singh Cheema, who will contest from Ropar constituency. Cheema is the former political advisor to the chief minister and had contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Anandpur Sahib but lost to Ravneet Singh Bittu of the Congress. The decision to hand the Ropar ticket to Cheema, however, has forced the sitting SAD MLA from here,Sant Ajit Singh, who has been demanding the ticket,to resign from the party. Ajith Singh and his supporters are now backing former SGPC member Jarnail Singh Aulakh, who is standing as an Independent. Former MP and a former minister in the state government,Prem Singh Chandumajra has been given the party ticket from Fategarh Sahib despite protests by sitting MLA Deedar Singh Bhatti who is considered a close aide of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Bhatti had openly declared that he would revolt and leave the party if he was not given the SAD ticket. Chief Parliamentary Secretary and sitting Phillaur (SC) MLA,Sarwan Singh Phillaur will now contest from Kartarpur (SC) while another CPS Avinash Chander has been fielded from Phillaur (SC). With Sri Hargobindpur becoming a reserved constituency after delimitation, another CPS Des Raj Dhugga has been chosen for the seat. Dugga was the sitting MLA from Gardiwala which now ceases to exist after delimitation. Among the new faces this time is Satinder Kaur Kariha who will join the poll fray at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar - Nawanshehar. Kariha is the wife of the former sitting MLA from here,Jatinder Singh Kariha, who died some time back. Another new face is the Ludhiana Mayor, Hakim Singh Giaspura, who has been given party ticket from Ludhiana South - the seat that was initially handed to Balwinder Bains but was withdrawn after the Bains brothers were expelled from the SAD as SS Bains had decided to contest as an Independent against cabinet minister Hira Singh Gabria at Atamnagar. Other new faces include former Congressman Mahesh Inder Singh Nihalsinghwala, who will contest from Bagha Purana,Fategarh Sahib SAD district president,Jagdeep Singh Cheema, who has been fielded from Amloh and a retired judge and husband of MP Paramjit Kaur Ghulshan,Nirmal Singh, who will contest from Bassi Pathana (SC).
