An inter-district gang of snatchers was arrested by the Ambala police. A team of CIA staff formed by the SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa nabbed three gangsters who used to commit crime in the garb of sadhus. They were identified as Salinder Nath alias Surinder Nath resident of Panipat, Rakesh Nath, resident of Noida and Krishan Nath resident of village Kanora Rewari.
The SP Randhawa Wednesday said that the modus operandi of the gangsters involved acting as sadhus to approach victims, who were mostly old women and relieve them of their earrings and other jewellery. During interrogation they confessed to have committed the crime in the districts of Sonepat, Panipat, Kaithal, Rewari, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal.
The SP said that businessman, Subhash Singh, registered a complaint that his family members were robbed of gold rings by two persons dressed as sadhus as they would never suspect that sadhus would act as snatchers. The police registered a case against the three in the Naggal PS. They were produced in the court from where they were remanded to police custody for four days.
The SP further said that a police team headed by the Ambala Cantt SHO Naresh Kumar nabbed a criminal carrying 600 intoxicating capsules. The smuggler was identified as Suraj alias Surja, resident of Sadar Bazar, Ambala Cantt. He said that the capsules were wrapped in polythene strips and were to be delivered to the chemists.
The SP Randhawa disclosed that two youths were nabbed smuggling 14.85 gm heroin in Katcha Bazar Ambala Cantt. They confessed that they smuggled heroin to be delivered to different persons who either bought it for themselves or sold to others. Both were produced in the court which sent them to judicial custody.
