3 married women commit suicide

Three married women committed suicide in separate incidents in the city on Monday.

In the first case,a 30-year-old pregnant woman committed suicide in the afternoon after she had an altercation with her husband over washing of utensils. The deceased has been identified as Meenakshi. She was reportedly six-month pregnant. She hung herself from the ceiling fan at her residence at Maloya. Her husband Om Prakash had gone for work when the incident happened. The couple have an eight-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son from their marriage. Police have ruled out foul play in the incident.

In a separate case,the daughter-in-law of a gardener working at GCG,Sector 11,committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at the college quarters which were allotted to her father-in-law. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Geeta. She had got married to Pankaj,a security guard,some months ago. The victims father-in-law reportedly told the police that Geeta was under depression as she wanted to visit her hometown in Nepal.

In another incident,29-year-old Ritu committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her Sector 24 residence. Her husband Amit is employed as a teacher in Mohali. The victim left behind a suicide note,in which she mentioned that she had converted to Christianity. She was reportedly upset over the fact that her husband told their parents about her conversion. So she decided to end her life. She has left behind a two-year-old daughter.
