2 Punjab men attempt suicide on Instagram live, stunned villagers rush to save them, but in vain
The two men from the Chhanna Gulab Singh Wala village in Barnala alleged harassment by two others before ending their lives.

Two men died by suicide after going live on Instagram in the Barnala district of Punjab Sunday evening. The incident occurred in the Chhanna Gulab Singh Wala village in the Bhadaur Assembly constituency, leaving the residents shocked.
The duo, identified as Kulwinder Singh Kinda and Balbeer Singh alias Beera, were sitting inside a car parked near agricultural fields when they went live on Instagram. In the video, they alleged harassment by two people from the village, including one ahrtiya (commission agent), before dying by suicide.
A few villagers who saw the live video rushed to the scene and took both men to the Civil Hospital in Bhadaur, where they were declared dead during treatment.
Kulwinder, in the video, also said he used to procure opium for himself and others, raising questions about the circumstances that led to the suicide. Both the deceased came from economically vulnerable backgrounds and worked as daily wage labourers—each is survived by a wife, two sons, and elderly parents.
Gurvinder Singh, Bhadaur police Station House Officer (SHO), confirmed that an FIR has been lodged on the complaint of Jagrup Singh, father of Kulwinder.
“Based on family statements, a case has been registered against four people. Investigations are underway and every angle is being examined,” the SHO told mediapersons.
No arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The families of the deceased have declined to speak to the media.
These deaths come months after a suspected drug-related crime in the same village.
In December, Sukhjeet Singh, 26, the newly elected sarpanch of the Chhanna Gulab Singh Wala village, was allegedly attacked inside his house by a group. He later succumbed to injuries in hospital. His family then claimed that he was targeted for raising his voice against the drug menace in the village. However, the police held political rivalry responsible for the crime.
