A local court awarded 10 years imprisonment to 14 accused for raping a minor girl and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on each,almost a year after the case came to light. Additional chief judicial magistrate Ritu Garg,however,acquitted one of the accused Deepak alias Pathan,for lack of evidence.
The accused,punished under Section 376 (ii) (g) of IPC,are Karan Sharma,Jaswant Singh,Saurabh Sharma,Puneet Kumar,Baldev Kumar,Rajeev Sharma,Hemant Kumar,Yogesh Kumar,Shadman Khan,Pankaj,Neeraj and Amit. An FIR was registered against them at Kalka police station under Sections 363,366,376,328,342,506 of IPC.
The accused had kidnapped the 16-year-old victim from the railway lines in Kalka when she was on her way to deliver lunch to her father,a Class IV employee with the railways. The accused,Jaswant kidnapped the girl and took her to various locations where she was repeatedly gangraped by Singh and his friends. She was also taken to the house of one of the accused in the railway colony where she was confined for about two days and later shifted to a hotel in Kalka.
Five days later the accused dropped the girl at the same spot. Acting on a complaint lodged by the girl,one of the accused was arrested from the colony,and subsequently the rest of them. A day-to-day trial of the case was held on the directions of the High Court which concluded today.
Meanwhile,chaos prevailed in the court as soon as the judgment was pronounced. Relatives of the accused gheraoed the complainants counsel Jaswant Singh and tried to attack him. Advocates present in the complex had to intervene and even the police had to be called. As the agitated relatives raised slogans,police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to scare them away.
