Acting on a tip-off received after the Mansa fake arms licences racket was unearthed, the Abohar police have recovered nearly 1,250 fake arms licences, two foreign made pistols and one .32 bore revolver. The recovery was made from the premises of one Harish Kumar Vij and his younger brother Raman Kumar Vij,who run Durga Gun House opposite the local tehsil complex. Both are absconding, along with their families, said the police.
The two have been booked under Sections 471,468,467,465 and 420 of the IPC and 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act. Though an FIR was registered on May 5,Ferozepur SSP Kautabh Sharma confirmed this only on Sunday.
Documents pertaining to the seized fake licences carry names of people residing in Himachal Pradesh,Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana,it is learnt. A police party has been dispatched to the Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir to make further inquiries, said the police.
With the latest recovery, many gun houses and dealers are currently under police scrutiny. The police said a few gun house dealers of Abohar were facing a CBI probe after it found that they were allegedly involved in making fake licences for members of the outlawed Dawood Ibrahims gang.
After the name of Moga-based Alishan Gun House was also listed in the racket busted by the Mansa police,an exercise to check the arms used by the police has been initiated. Moga SSP Snehdeep Sharma said: The investigations are being made by the Mansa police. We have checked the documents found at this gun house and it has come to light that it was involved in making fake bills.
He added: We have also initiated the process of checking the arms that are being used by our men and those kept in the police lines. Some police men were also found to be involved in the racket.
