1052 aspriring players attend trials for Sports Wings and academies

A total of 1052 budding players (779 boys and 273 girls) from Ludhiana,Roop Nagar,Fatehgarh Sahib,Patiala,Sangrur,Mansa and Mohali were seen in action in the trials for various Sports Wings and academies in the state at the Guru Nanak Stadium,Ludhiana.

Ludhiana: A total of 1052 budding players (779 boys and 273 girls) from Ludhiana,Roop Nagar,Fatehgarh Sahib,Patiala,Sangrur,Mansa and Mohali were seen in action in the trials for various Sports Wings and academies in the state at the Guru Nanak Stadium,Ludhiana. The games included in these trials were athletics (98+60),boxing (91+16),badminton (32+23),basketball (60+21),cycling (08+03),football (110),gymnastics (Artistic and Rhythmic) (11+15),judo (39+13),handball (74+10),kabaddi (30+08),table tennis (05+08),volleyball (86+61),weightlifting(14+03) and wrestling (121+32). Players will be selected on March 7 by experts from different committees which was constituted by Punjab Sports Department for the final selection. The selected players will get Rs. 200/- per player per day diet for residential wing and Rs. 100/- per player per day for day scholars. They will will be placed at the sports centre equipped with all modern facilities of their choice wings in the state for training.

Jashanpreet engineers DAV C team victory

Chanddigarh: Jashanpreet produced a stellar all-round show (4 for 33 and 25 not out),as DAV C team beat DAV B team by five wickets in the Vachitar Singh Memorial cricket leauge tournament played on Wednesday. Ankit fired 53 runs to help the DAV C team achieve the target. Earlier,the DAV B team elected to bat first after winning the toss. Raman Bhoora looked in good tocuh as he smashed unbeaten 51 off 58 deliveries with the help of five boundaries. Sanjeev also hit 26-ball 25 unbeaten runs to take the score to 171 for 7 in 38 overs. Jadeep chipped in with 22 off 40 balls. Jashanpreet was the best bowler for DAV C team as he took four wickets while giving away 33 runs in his quota of nine overs. Orminder bagged two wickets for 26 runs. In reply,the DAV C team scored 174 for 5 in 37 overs. Ankit top scored with 53 runs off 60 balls with the help of five boundaries while Pulkit contributed 25 runs off 30 deliveries. However,it was Jashanpreet who produced the fireworks in the end with a blazing knock of 24 runs off 18 balls with the help of four boundaries. Raman amd Deepak bagged two wickets each for the DAV B team.

Senior state netball meet from March 12

Chandigarh: Netball Association of Chandigarh will conduct the Chandigarh Senior State Netball Championship at Government College,Sector 11,Chandigarh on March 12 and 13. All the players have to report for the matches at 8.30 am in the college premises. Without Identity Card,no one would be allowed to participate in any match. The entry forms of the players duly verified by respective Principal with father’s name,date of birth,class with section,admission no.,address,phone no.,signature,may be forward to Dr. Parshant Das,assistant professor,Department of Physical Education at the College or he can be contacted at 9501555884 on or before March 9 up to 5 pm. The fixture can be collected on March 11 at 5pm from the office of Department of Physical Education of the College.

City golfer Saaniya tied fifth

Chandigarh: Chandigarh golfer Saaniya Sharma was tied fifth along with Vani Kapoor at the close of the second day’s play in the fourth leg of the Women’s pro golf tour in Mumbai on Wednesday. Both hit identical scores of 141. Meanwhile,veteran golfer Smriti Mehra made a remarkable comeback with a brilliant round of two-under 63 to lead the field at the close of play. Smriti,who had been struggling with her form lately,brought in all her experience today to play a superb round of two-under 63 to take a single stroke lead over overnight leader Sharmila Nicollet. Smriti played a flawless front nine with a birdie on the sixth and carded three more on the 11th,15th and 17th to finish the day with a total score of 130. Her two bogeys on the 10th and 13th were the only blemish on an otherwise perfect outing for the senior pro. Overnight leader Sharmila had a disappointing day with second round score of three-over 68 and a total score of 131.
