5 Keonjhar students to pursue master’s degree at Curtin University in Australia

The partnership will help the students to be equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in mining engineering. Developing quality human resources will also help the mineral-rich Keonjhar district with responsible management of its resources.

In a first, five graduates from the Government College of Engineering (GCE), Keonjhar in Odisha will pursue their master’s degree at the prestigious Curtin University in Australia.

The five students – Minarbha Sahoo, Advik Kumar, Aquib Ahmed, Gitish Sekhar Nayak, and Saroj Kumar Biswakarma – have completed their BTech degree in mining engineering.

The Keonjhar district administration will bear all expenses, including travel and living costs, from the District Mineral Foundation fund. The overall cost for a single student would be around Rs 70 lakh.

“The initiative aims to foster educational excellence and empower the youth of Keonjhar. This is the first time that such an initiative has been taken by a district. We want to continue it every year. The program will inspire other students to focus and build a better career in the future,” Keonjhar Collector Ashish Thakare told The Indian Express.

The Keonjhar district administration has partnered with the West Australian School of Mines: Minerals, Energy, and Chemical Engineering affiliated with Curtin University for the program.

The partnership will help the students to be equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and skills in mining engineering. Developing quality human resources will also help the mineral-rich Keonjhar district with responsible management of its resources.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently met these students and interacted with them at Naveen Niwas, Bhubaneswar. Patnaik encouraged them to study hard and passionately pursue their career goals.
