MP: Six arrested for ‘thrashing, parading two Dalit youths’

The incident was allegedly captured on camera, acting on which the state government demolished illegal structures belonging to the accused persons.

Madhya Pradesh police arrested six persons in connection with allegedly thrashing two Dalit youths, garlanding them with shoes and parading them in Shivpuri district.

According to the police, on June 30, the two youths were allegedly thrashed by some men and women on suspicion that they molested and filmed some girls in Varkhadi village. The accused were identified as Ajmat Khan, Vakil Khan, Arif Khan, Shahid Khan, Islam Khan, Rahisha Bano and Saina Bano.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Thursday termed the thrashing of two Dalit youths a “shame on humanity” and said he has directed the administration to invoke the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against the accused.

District officials have said three of the accused persons had encroached forest land and were served notices to remove the illegal encroachments. The police said their probe found that the two Dalit men were “not involved in any molestation”.
