MP man found dead at home, kin say beaten in police custody
At a press conference, BJP state general secretary Bhagwan Das Sabani said an investigation in the case was underway.

A tribal man detained by the police in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district was found dead at his home hours after his release earlier this week, his family and the police said Friday.
Sriram, a resident of Silvani village, was detained Tuesday after he allegedly created ruckus at a function in an inebriated state. His family members have alleged he was beaten in custody.
Police said the exact cause of Sriram’s death will be clear after a post mortem. They said the man was detained after the sarpanch of Silvani village complained he was creating ruckus, adding that all legal procedures were followed in the process.
“He was detained from 6 pm to 8 pm and there is CCTV footage recording that. We will conduct his post mortem to shed clarity on the cause of death,” ACP Vikas Kumar Shahwal said.
Speaking to reporters, Sriram’s brother Ram Naresh said the police had detained Sriram “around 5 pm on Tuesday”. “He was beaten in custody and then he was released in the night. In the morning (Wednesday), he was found dead inside his room.”
Silvani Sarpanch Nitin Thakur said the police detained Sriram around 4 pm on Tuesday and released him the same day. “Next morning (Wednesday), he was found unconscious. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead.” Sriram’s last rites were performed amid heavy police deployment on Thursday.
In a tweet, state Congress president and former chief minister Kamal Nath targeted Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and said: “Relatives allege that the police beat him (Sriram) with shoes, and he was found dead in the morning. I would like to know from the CM whether there will be justice in this case, or if, following the pattern of mistreating indigenous people, this case will also be swept aside.”
