(Representational Image) At least two people have died of a suspected viral infection outbreak in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district after showing “diarrhoeal symptoms”, while deaths of two others are being investigated for symptoms, health department officials said on Monday.
All four deaths have been recorded over the last four days. According to officials, 55 people have been treated in connection with the suspected outbreak in Tikuria village on September 6 — all patients complained of vomiting, loose motion and fever.
A 45-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy died of “diarrhoeal symptoms” and a 90-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman’s death is being investigated. All four deaths were recorded between September 7 and 8. Stating that the senior citizens may have died of age-related complications, a health official said they “did not exhibit any diarrhoeal symptoms and an investigation is on to ascertain cause of death”. But their deaths are being investigated for possible symptoms, officials said

“We suspect there is an outbreak of viral infection in Tikuria village. We have asked the Public Health Engineering Department to collect water samples from the sealed handpumps and get them tested,” Tiwari said. “We are ascertaining whether this is a viral infection. Lab test results are awaited.”
