A “plethora of opportunities” await those who could join a “system that needs people to understand what to do with a (record) investment”,  Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairperson and CEO of the Railway Board of the Indian Railways, asserted on Thursday in a message to students. Her remarks were in reference to the capital outlay of Rs 2.4 lakh crore allocated in Union Budget 2023 to Indian Railways, which she termed as a “mammoth investment”. “India is the world’s hope for tomorrow,” said Sinha as she spoke at the first Convocation of the Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), the first Central University for transport located in Vadodara

Sinha was the Chief Guest at the convocation of GSV, established as a Central University last year by rechristening the National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI). The convocation was presided over to award degrees to 179 students from 2022 and 201 students from 2023.

“India today is a land of opportunities. While there are geographical conflicts and tensions around the world, India has remained– as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also said– the only solitary blip of positivity and optimism in the world. So, whichever sector –infrastructure, digital, telecom, electronics, semiconductor, pharma, agriculture, start-ups, atmanirbhar (self- reliant) in defence and space, India has become the world’s hope for tomorrow as demonstrated in the G20 Summit,” she asserted.

“We are in Vadodara and you can see how high-speed rail is progressing– it will be a game-changer. If you look at the cross-budgetary support and the record CAPEX given to the railways this year, which is Rs 2.4 lakh crore. That is a mammoth amount of money that is being infused into the system. The system requires people who understand what is expected of this kind of investment. The kind of education and inputs you have received from the Gatishakti Vishwavidyalaya, you will have a plethora of opportunities opening up for all of you,” she added.
