Dejected over a domestic fight and bad health condition, a 24-year-old woman allegedly killed her two-year-old daughter and attempted to die by suicide in Bengaluru on March 17.

The incident took place at Seegehalli in KR Puram police limits. The child was identified as Shrutika, daughter of Lakshminarayan (31) and Chinna (24).

On March 17, when Lakshminarayan went out to pay a visit to the temple, Chinna strangled her daughter and tried to die by suicide.

Before trying to die by suicide, she called her mother who in turn informed Lakshminarayan over phone. Lakshminarayan rushed home and broke open the door as it was locked from inside.

Shivakumar Gunare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Whitefield division, said both the mother and the child had some health issues. “There was also a rift between the couple. We have initiated a murder and attempt to suicide case. As per doctors, Chinna’s condition is critical,” he added.

He also said that Lakshminarayan and Chinna shifted to Bengaluru’s Seegehalli house in December. Prior to that, after the birth of Shrutika, Chinna lived with her parents. “Lakshminarayan works in a software company,” Gunare added.
