The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the allegations of sexual abuse against JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has issued a lookout circular after he failed to appear before it officials following a notice of appearance served on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Prajwal, the grandson of JD(S) founder and former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, sought seven days to appear before the SIT. The SIT also issued notices to Prajwal and his father H D Revanna, who have been named as accused based on the complaint of one of the women, on the same day.
A police officer, who is part of the SIT, confirmed to The Indian Express that a lookout circular has been issued at all the immigration points to detain Prajwal Revanna, said to be in Germany, as soon as he enters the country. “It is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to issue a lookout notice and we have done it,” the police officer said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the formation of the SIT to look into the allegations following a letter by the State Commission for Women.
Several explicit videos went viral on social media in which Prajwal Revanna was allegedly involved.
A case was registered by the Holenarasipura town police on April 28 after pen drives with 2,967 files went viral in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. A 47-year-old woman filed a police complaint alleging she was sexually abused by Prajwal and his father Revanna. A 47-year-old woman filed a complaint with the police stating that she was sexually abused by Prajwal and his father Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna.
Prajwal Revanna and H D Revanna have been booked under sections 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 354 (d) (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (intending to insult the modesty of any woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In his first reaction to the episode, Prajwal on X wrote on Wednesday, “As I am not in Bangalore to attend the enquiry, I have communicated to C.I.D Bangalore through my Advocate. Truth will prevail soon.”
On the same day, Siddaramaiah wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Centre to cancel the diplomatic passport of Prajwal Revanna. The Karnataka chief minister said the Centre must ensure his return by making use of diplomatic and police channels.
H D Revanna has called the allegations a ‘conspiracy’, and said, “4-5 years old and I know what kind of conspiracy is going on”.
The Janata Dal (Secular) suspended Prajwal from the party on Tuesday in light of the allegations, and said he will remain suspended until the SIT submits its report.
