Meanwhile, chaos prevailed in the court premises as fans gathered in large numbers. Additional police force was also deployed to manage the crowd. A journalist was also assaulted by unknown persons for asking why he was present at the court.
The police on Saturday produced the accused before the court and appealed by stating that Renukaswamy was tortured with electric shocks and they wanted to recover the devices used by him to send lewd messages to Pavithra Gowda. While the custody of Darshan and others were supposed to end on Sunday, the police produced the accused before a court a day prior seeking their extension.
On June 11, Darshan Thoogudeepa was arrested along with his friend Pavithra Gowda and 11 others in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. According to the police, Renukaswamy was murdered because he had allegedly sent abusive messages to Pavithra Gowda on Instagram. The police later arrested three others — Anu Kumar, Jagadeesh and Ravi — in the murder case.
While Anu Kumar surrendered before the police, on Friday evening, his father Chandranna, 60, died due to heart attack.
On Saturday, Darshan’s counsel pressed for judicial custody but the prosecution requested for extension of the police custody. The prosecution appealed to the court that they have to take Darshan to Mysuru to recreate the crime scene.
The prosecution also informed the court that they have collected CCTV footage and have recovered Rs 30 lakh that was paid to the family of one of the accused.
Apart from Darshan and Pavithra, the other arrested are Vinay V, Nagaraju R, Laxman M, Pradosh S, Pawan K, Deepak Kumar M, Nandish, Nikhil Nayak, Karthik, Keshava Murthy, Ravi, Jagadish alias Jagga and Anu Kumar.
