A man from Dehradun in Uttarakhand allegedly killed two minor daughters of a woman he was living with in Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon, apparently over some dispute with her.

The deceased—Srushti,14, and her sister Soni, 16—were found lying in a pool of blood at their home in Dasarahalli’s Kaveri Layout by their mother Anita when she returned home around 5.30 pm, police said, adding that a blood-stained machete was also found there. As the woman cried for help, their neighbours were alerted and they informed the police of the murders.

The police said the girls had suffered fatal blows to their necks and died on the spot from severe blood loss.

An officer said that Mohan, who had been living with Anita for nine years since her divorce from her first husband, is the prime suspect in the murders.

A delivery worker for a grocery platform, Mohan has been missing since the incident, the police said. “We believe he may have fled the state, possibly by boarding a train, given that he is not from Karnataka,” the officer added.

Anita belongs to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The couple had lived on the second floor of a three-storey building in Dasarahalli for two years. The property’s owner lives on the first floor.

A case has been registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Amruthahalli police station based on Anita’s complaint and the investigation is underway.
