AN alleged cheat, who duped people in various parts of the country on promise of getting their wards admission in medical and engineering colleges, has been arrested by state crime branch sleuths from Bangalore.
Identifying the accused as Jami Bala of Sasahandi, Orissa, and at present staying in Banglore, SSP Crime Branch Mubassir Latifi said that arrest happened after a complaint by one Shravan Singh of Katra. Pointing out that he has been duped of nearly Rs 84 lakh by Jami Bala, the complainant said that his family came into his contact for seeking admission in R V College of Engineering, Bangalore and also for purchasing some property there.
The complainant paid him more than Rs 20 lakh in cash and through bank after the latter promised to get a seat for his sister in that college under the management quota. However, the accused did not fulfill his promise despite his depositing huge sums totaling Rs 84 lakh in his bank account on different occasions, the complainant added.
Before apprehending the accused in Bangalore, the crime branch scanned the bank records and other evidences, Latifi said. During the preliminary questioning, it was found that he had duped various persons throughout the country on pretext of arranging admissions in engineering and medical colleges, the SSP added.
