Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah announces interest waiver on farm loans
While replying to a debate on the North Karnataka region in the House, Siddaramaiah said the government will waive off interest on loans availed by farmers from cooperative societies and banks in view of the drought situation.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Friday announced an interest waiver on farm loans for those who have repaid the principal amount in full. The announcement came on the final day of the Winter Session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in Belagavi.
While replying to a debate on the North Karnataka region in the House, Siddaramaiah said the government will waive off interest on loans availed by farmers from cooperative societies and banks in view of the drought situation.
Siddaramaiah also announced that two industrial estates will be set up – one at Belagavi (2,000 acres) and another near Dharwad (3,500 acres). Moreover, a foundry cluster will be established near Belagavi.
The chief minister also announced a manufacturing cluster will be set up on a 1,500-acre plot in Vijayapura.
Siddaramaiah said the government will start the Mahadayi project after getting clearance from the Centre.
The chief minister also announced that the government will constitute a high-powered committee led by a senior economist on the lines of the D M Nanjundappa Committee to evaluate the human development status of taluks.
Stating that Rs 32,400 crore has been spent from 2007-08 as per the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee, he added that many taluks are still backward.
The average per capita income of the state is Rs 2.6 lakh per annum, whereas in Kalyana-Karnataka it is just Rs 1.5 lakh, Siddaramaiah noted.
