"There is a need to create awareness among rural people about dental health", said Health & Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar. Speaking on the occasion of International Dentists Day at Rajeev Gandhi University of Health sciences, the minister said that while people abroad go for dental check-ups at least twice a year, people in rural areas of our country visit the dentist only after the pain is irresistible.
"There is lack of awareness regarding the dental care in India, we need to create awareness about this especially in rural area", he said.

The minister added that people in rural areas still use charcoal powder and are ignorant of using tooth paste even today. "We have very low dental treatment cost compared to other nations. People should make use of this to keep their dental health in good condition", said Dr.Sudhakar.
Senior JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti was on Tuesday elected as the Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, amid protests by Congress over the passage of "anti cow slaughterbill" in the House.
Horatti, a seven time MLC, who represents Karnataka west teachers constituency, was declared "unanimously" elected. After JD(S) MLCs proposed Horatti's name for the Chairman post, Congress legislators did not turn up at their seats to propose their candidate Naseer Ahmed's name. Following this the Deputy Chairman declared that Basavaraj Horatti has been elected as the Chairman of the Legislative Council "unanimously".
He has been a member of the Council for nearly 40 years now, starting from 1980. He had served as the Chairman (acting) of the Council from June 22 to December 12, 2018.
Horratti's election was certain as BJP and JD(S) had joined hands for the Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman post. (PTI)
Air India has decided to resume its flight services between Hubballi and Mumbai from February 16, months after it was suspended amid the pandemic outbreak. According to AI officials, the AI airbus will fly three days a week -- Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
AI had commenced the flight services between the two cities from January 20, 2020 for four days a week. However, two months later, it was put on hold after COVID-19 outbreak in Mumbai emerged as a hotspot. After almost a year, the airlines decided to resume its February 16.
Sharing the information, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Coals and Mines Pralhad Joshi tweeted, "The Air India has introduced flights (AirBus) between Hubballi and Mumbai 3 days a week , every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Flights service will start from February 16th." (PTI)
Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) volunteers submitted the demands of citizens for a systemic approach to pervasive footpath woes in Bengaluru to Karnataka Chief Secretary Ravi Kumar today.
In the letter, the citizens demanded the Chief Secretary's office to pass a government order to appoint Zonal Pedestrian Safety Special Commissioners in each of the city's eight zones and one City-level Commissioner for Pedestrian Safety.
The volunteers also demanded monthly co-ordination meetings led by these commissioners between among BBMP, BWSSB, BESCOM, Smart City, UDD/DULT, BMTC (for bus shelters and bus bays) and the traffic police.

The arrest of a Bengaluru Municipal officer on Monday led to the recovery of cash, liquor, government files and seals of his superiors, authorities said.
The assistant director in the Town Planning Department of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Devendrappa had demanded a bribe of Rs 40 lakh from Sigmis Breweries to issue an occupancy certificate to their completed building, the anti-corruption bureau said in a press release.
Based on a complaint, a trap was laid. When the executives of Sigmis paid Rs 20 lakh as the first instalment of the bribe, the sleuths caught Devendrappa red-handed.
A search in his car led to the recovery of cash totalling Rs 7.4 lakh and over 50 BBMP files, the release said. A raid on Devendrappa's residence led to the haul of 120 liquor bottles of high-end brands, a variety of cars, many bank accounts, fixed deposits and 430 BBMP files related to his department, it said.
Besides, the official was found to be having the seals of his superiors with him, it said. "The Excise Department will interrogate him separately for possessing huge quantity of liquor," the release said. (PTI)

Karnataka recorded 328 positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state tally to 9,42,846.
Among the districts, three cases each were recorded in Ballari, Chamarajanagara, Dharwada and Haveri, two each in Belagavi, Bengaluru Rural, Bidar, Chikkamagaluru and Uttara Kannada, 127 in Bengaluru Urban, four in Chikkaballapura, 13 each in Chitradurga and Kalaburagi, 40 in Dakshina Kannada, one each in Gadag, Kodagu, Koppala and Raichuru, 14 in Hassana, 11 in Kolara, six in Mandya, 48 in Mysuru, five each in Shivamogga and Vijayapura and eight each in Tumakuru and Udupi.
Karnataka recorded 328 positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state tally to 9,42,846. The state recorded three deaths, two in Bengaluru Urban and one in Bengaluru Rural on Monday, putting the state toll at 12,239. One of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. A total of 350 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,24,654.
As of Monday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka is 5934. Among these, 143 patients have been admitted in ICUs across the state.
The COVID positivity rate on Monday was 0.67 per cent, while the case fatality rate was 0.91 per cent.

Karnataka got its 31st district with the state government on Monday issuing an official gazette notification carving out a new Vijayanagara district from Ballari. The new district will have six taluks and Hosapete will be its headquarters. Kudligi, Hagaribommana halli, Kotturu, Hoovina Hadagali, and Harapanahalli are the other five taluks.
Ballari district will have five taluks- Ballari, Kurugodu, Siraguppa, Kampli, and Sanduru. Ballari taluk will remain its headquarters.
The state cabinet had given in principle approval for creation of Vijayanagara district on November 18 last year. The government's plan to create Vijayanagara district had run into opposition, especially from within the ruling BJP. (PTI)

A dedicated webpage - Voice of BLR – was created on the BLR Airport website (https://www.bengaluruairport.com/travellers/passenger-services/voice-of-blr.html) to enable the availability of factual and updated information related to air travel during COVID-19. An FAQ series was launched to address potential travel-related COVID-19 queries of passengers. The FAQs were extended on social media platforms to share real-time information and updates on the evolving situation on travel and quarantine advisories issued by GoI, screening procedures and airport operations, among others.
The stage is set for the February 9 election to the post of Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman, with JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti, supported by BJP and Congress' Naseer Ahmed filing their nominations on Monday. According to the official notification, today was the date for filing of nominations.
Horatti, flanked by BJP and JD(S) MLCs, including Ministers Kota Srinivas Poojary and MTB Nagaraj, filed his papers before the Council Secretary, while Ahmed was accompanied by Congress legislators.
The election was necessitated following the resignation of Congress' K Prathapachandra Shetty as the Chairman on February 4 to pre empt a no-confidence motion against him by the ruling BJP, and JD(S) extending support to it. (PTI)

The health sector’s evolution calls for active involvement and participation of all stakeholders and use of innovation to bridge intent and execution, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Sunday as he noted that healthcare delivery in India is poised to undergo change at all stages. He also hoped that the world has learnt the right lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing the 23rd annual convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, he said the evolution of the sector calls for active involvement and participation of all stakeholders and use of innovation to bridge intent and execution.
“Though COVID-19 seems to be one-of-a-kind health-crisis that happens rarely, a section of scientists has warned us to be prepared for similar challenges ahead. The world has, let us hope, learnt the right lessons,” he said, adding that the pandemic has taught the world that one cannot be safe if others are at risk and it is a lesson in universal brotherhood.

She is doing the task of bringing a centuries-old tradition back to modern Kashmiri kitchens — use of earthen utensils — thanks to a school in Bengaluru.

Congress in Karnataka on Sunday said it has decided to field its MLC Naseer Ahmed as party's candidate for the Legislative Council Chairman's election scheduled to be held on February 9.
"Congress has decided to field Naseer Ahmed as its candidate for the Legislative Council Chairman election, he is our candidate. Let's see which party will take what stand," state Congress President D K Shivakumar told reporters in Bengaluru.
According to an official notification, February 8 is the date for filing of nominations for the election to the post of Legislative Council Chairman, while election will take place the next day. The election has been necessitated following the resignation of K Prathapachandra Shetty as the Chairman on February 4.
BJP has announced its support to senior JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti for the post of Chairman, in accordance with the pact between both parties. (PTI)
Politics around the Lingayat community has once again taken centre stage in Karnataka, with a section of BJP MLAs and seers in the community demanding inclusion of a large Lingayat sub-sect in an OBC quota category that provides 15% reservation in government jobs and education in the state.
Veerashaiva Lingayats have been provided 5% reservation under a special category called 3B. A sub-sect called the Panchamasali Lingayats — basically agriculturists who account for nearly 70% of Lingayats — have now risen in protest seeking reservations under the category 2A, which currently provides 15% reservations to backward castes. The demand has been raised by BJP MLA Basavaraj Patil Yatnal and two prominent seers, Jaya Basava Mruthyunjaya Swami and Vachananda Swami. A protest march and rallies in parts in north and central Karnataka since January 14 have put pressure on Yediyurappa to take a decision.
The main stand of the Panchamasali Lingayats is that the community has been denied benefits, and that large sections dependent on agriculture are socially, economically, and educationally backward.
