A court in Bengaluru Tuesday rejected Kannada actor and Renukaswamy murder case accused Darshan Thoogudeepa’s request to transfer him from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to Ballari jail.
During the hearing before the 57th CCH court in Bengaluru, Darshan, who joined through video conference, broke down and reportedly told the judge, “I don’t want anything for anyone, please give me poison…”
“It has been nearly a month that I have seen sunlight. My hands are getting a fungal infection… Life here has become unbearable…” he reportedly said.
The judge, however, admonished him and said: “You cannot say such things.” Darshan then nodded and remained silent.
While denying his transfer, the court provided limited relief by permitting movement within the jail and granting additional bedding as per the prison manual, allowing additional pillows and bedsheets.
The court also observed that since there has been no violation of prison rules, the actor can be kept in central prison in Bengaluru.
Darshan was arrested on June 11 last year along with Pavithra Gowda and 15 others in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Darshan spent 131 days in jail and was released on October 30 on interim bail. On December 13, the Karnataka High Court granted regular bail to Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, which was challenged by the state government before the Supreme Court. On 14 August, the top court cancelled the bail granted by the HC.
