Commuters travelling towards Hebbal flyover from K R Puram to enter Bengaluru should brace for four months of slow-moving traffic as the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) will soon begin the construction of new flyover lanes at the busy intersection.
The BDA has proposed the construction of two dedicated lanes from KR Puram to Hebbal. The objective of this project is to avoid mixing traffic coming from Kempegowda International Airport and ease the vehicle load at the Hebbal junction. The Hebbal junction is significant as it connects traffic to and from the airport and also connects to IT corridors such as K R Puram on the east.
Two spans of the loop connecting K R Puram to Hebbal will be dismantled, causing road width reduction and traffic flow disruption. Dismantling work is set to commence in the next two days, as per BDA officials.
The Bengaluru traffic police advisory stated: “Since the BDA has proposed to add two new tracks to Hebbal flyover, two spans will be dismantled near K R Puram loop joining main track. This will make the movement of traffic very slow as K R Puram loop towards city for the next four months.”
The traffic police suggested using alternative routes to enter the city. Commuters from K R Puram can use IOC-Mukunda theatre road, Lingarajapuram flyover route, or Nagavara-Tannery Road route. People from Hegde Nagar-Thanisandra can use GKVK-Jakkur road.
