Four suspected Bodo militants arrested in Bengaluru

Basumatri was linked to the killing of eight Adivasis at Lungsung on December 23 last year and six Hindi-speaking persons at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district on January 16, 2013.

Four alleged militants belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Songbijit faction, hiding in Bangalore in the guise of factory workers, after involvement in a 2014 attack on adivisasis in the Kokrajhar district of Assam, were arrested on Friday night.

The four men identified as Sandan Basumatri, 19, Naseen Basumatri, 19, Jibal Nursey, 19 and Tomar Basumatri, 20 were nabbed in a joint operation involving the Bangalore police, the Assam state police and Karnataka’s Internal Security Division (ISD).

The four were living in the Peenya Industrial Area of north Bangalore and were working in a plastic factory in the industrial area since they arrived in February, police sources said. The four alleged militants were frequently shifting residence to throw investigating agencies off their track.

The Rajagopalnagar police produced the four before a local court and handed them to the Assam police after obtaining a transit warrant. “The Assam police team are with us and they will take the accused with them on Saturday night ,” a police officer said.

The four alleged militants were involved in a 2014 attack where heavily armed NDFB(S) militants attacked Adivasi settlers in Assam killing over 30 persons. Police said investigations are on to see if more Bodo militants are holed up in and around Bangalore.
