Five die as bus rams into truck while overtaking in Karnataka

Five persons, including a child, died after a Kalyana Karnataka Road Transportation (KKRTC) and a truck collided on National Highway-150 in Chitradurga district early on Monday.

The victims have been identified as Mabamma (35), Ramesh (40), Parvathamma (45), Narasappa (5), and Ravi (23). They are all residents of Raichur district. At least six others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Chitradurga District Hospital.

The incident took place at around 3 am near Gollahalli when the KKRTC bus tried to overtake the truck and lost control and rammed into it. The five persons, who died on the spot, were heading from Raichur to Bengaluru.

Additional Director General of Police Traffic and Road Safety, Alok Kumar, said on X (formerly Twitter): “Can you guess the bus? Today at 3 am an Over speeding KSRTC bus tried to wrongly overtake a lorry in Chitradurga District, resulting in the death of 5 persons. A Man made disaster. DL of the driver being impounded. Plz put indicators & maintain safe distance while overtaking.”
